Sound Demos

This page contains some wonderful sound demonstrations of the sonic capabilities of the DSS-1. All of these sounds demonstrate how well the DSS-1 can create realistic sounding pianos, or classic polysynth sounds such as strings, brasses, leads and basses — rather than a bunch of demonstrations of filter sweeps and bizarre effects that are typical across the internet. About 80% of these sounds are original sounds that were either programmed (analog sounds) or sampled (pianos) by the website author. The remaining ones were either taken from Korg factory disks or 3rd party disks, and tweaked to taste.

Each sound file demonstrates a sonic characteristic of a particular polysynth or electric piano, and sometimes an association is made to a particular performer or performance. No claim is made about "total accuracy of the modeled sound", as in comparisons usually made with software synthesizers. This exercise is to show that the basic "spirit" of that instrument/sound has been achieved sonically in the DSS-1. Therefore, some people may disagree with the association made to a particular classic synthesizer or electric piano. Remember, this is only the website author's impression of the instrument being emulated, based on either playing the instrument in the past, or by countless hours of listening to them on old records.
